We love festivals! Henna Harem has a long history of installing “festival henna” at Australia’s leading music and cultural events. Working with a team of artists, we see henna body adornment as the natural accompaniment to these Celebrations of Culture.
It’s been a long road, us and festivals. Our first was Woodford Folk Festival 1999/2000, so we’re celebrating our 21st this year! (2019/2020). Starting with a humble space that we sewed and built ourselves, we’ve grown to a lush haven winning awards and compliments. Having attended over 130 festivals, we’ve become the longest-running, most-experienced henna outfit in Australia. You could say we’re street-savvy when it comes to festivals, understanding what it takes to prepare and endure these epic events. With great versatility depending on the space allowed, our aim is to create an uplifting home to relax and receive henna within. Installing a space is part of our creative process, attention is given to lighting, colour composition, texture, materials and visual appeal, with interest in maintaining a comfortable and inviting experience. In feel we honour all countries where henna has been used traditionally, as well as aspiring to the feel of a royal harem, where music, reading, dance and singing tuition was given to resident women. The constant women in the space inspired our name.
Our scope of festivals range from enormous rock music to small arts events, medieval re-enactments to electronic jives, alternative lifestyle to the agricultural show. These are some of our favourites:
